MBHL Youth Ball Hockey League at Le Club West Island

Due to high demand the Montreal Ball Hockey League will be launching its inaugural Youth Ball Hockey League this spring. Our league has been around for 20 years and is one of Canada’s largest recreational ball hockey leagues, and is the largest in Quebec. We look forward to providing your child a great ball hockey experience.

Thanks to NHL stars like Alex Burrows of the Vancouver Canucks, ball hockey has taken off in Canada! Many players today play the sport to improve their endurance, hand/eye coordination, and their speed.  But it’s also a great way to have fun with friends.

The MBHL is committed to providing a premier ball hockey experience by creating a safe and fun sporting environment. We look forward to having you and your child join us this Spring!

À La Carte Registration for Classes

“Spring into shape” this March, and try one of our innovative group conditioning classes. We’re offering an “à la carte” registration option for a selection of group conditioning classes on our schedule. Non-members can now register for an 8-week session of their favorite class for $96 (plus applicable sales taxes), while ALL group conditioning classes are included FREE with a membership at Le Club.

We recognize that some folks would prefer to simply register for a dedicated class with their friends, without making an annual commitment to a club membership. We believe this option will make it even easier for our members to invite family, friends, and neighbours to experience our new innovative and cutting-edge group conditioning program!

Our revitalized group conditioning program offers over 40 NEW fitness classes per week, including: Yoga, Pilates, Essentrics, Circuit Training, Core X-Press, Zumba and Batuka Dance Classes. Please help us spread the word, spaces are LIMITED. Registration has already begun at Le Club’s reception desk.

Welcome Bill Barczai as our New Facility Operations Manager

Please join us in welcoming Bill Barczai as our new Facility Operations Manager at Le Club West Island.  Bill comes to us from the Elm Ridge Golf and Country Club, where he was the first assistant to the Maintenance Manager for the past 7 years.  Prior his experience at Elm Ridge, Bill worked for 10 years in South Florida at restoring vintage yachts.  This is where he first discovered his passion for restoration and working with his hands.  Bill takes great pride in his accomplishments and gives 110% to everything that he does.  He is absolutely thrilled to be joining the team at Le Club West Island and he is eager to “get cracking” on a number of projects, ensuring that our facility remains in top condition for our members and guests.

If you happen to meet Bill during one of your workouts, please be sure to say hello! Bill is open to your feedback and suggestions and is committed to making your experience at Le Club West Island an excellent one!

Choosing the Right Personal Trainer

If you want to lose weight, get healthy and/or build muscle; hiring a personal trainer can be a step in the right direction. A good trainer can help you set up a program that meets your goals and teach you the best way to exercise. Finding and choosing a trainer can be a little confusing and, for some, intimidating. It’s not easy asking for help, but going in with more knowledge about how personal training works can make it a little easier.

What is a personal trainer?
A personal trainer should be, at the least, educated and certified through a reputable fitness organization (see below). This person’s job is to assess your fitness level, figure out what your goals are (or help you set goals) set up a program and keep you motivated. He or she will push you past your comfort level – something difficult to do on your own. A trainer also provides:

  • Guidance on reaching your goals;
  • Education about strength training, cardio and basic nutrition;
  • A reason to show up at the gym each week;
  • Accountability; and,
  • Ways to help track your progress.

What is a session like?
Each session usually lasts about an hour. The first meeting is devoted to assessing fitness level, postural assessment, body measurements, exercise and health history and goals. Depending on your goals, be prepared to step on a scale, have some body measurements taken and answer specific questions about your goals. After that, you’ll spend each session doing some combination of cardio, weight training, flexibility or other activities depending on what your goals are. Your trainer will show you how to do the exercises, help you figure out how much weight to use and give you pointers for getting the most out of each exercise.

If you need a little “push” to help stay accountable to your health and fitness goals, Le Club West Island offers one-on-one and small-group private sessions.  Our certified personal trainers help you launch a smart exercise program, move beyond stubborn plateaus, break out of fitness ruts and reenergize your workout.
