History of Le Club

Originally established as a racquet sports and fitness facility, Le Club West Island has been serving the West Island Community for over 35 years.  Members and residents from surrounding communities of Baie D’Urfé, Kirkland, Senneville, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, and Beaconsfield have enjoyed games of tennis or squash, working out in the fitness centre, and simply meeting friends for dinner and drinks at the restaurant. It has been a landmark in the community.

Long-standing members Mark and Julie Kaneb purchased Le Club West Island from the Argento family in 2008, with the intention to further re-brand the club as a place for wellness, fun and sport for families of the West Island and beyond.

The Kaneb’s spent the first few months evaluating the operation and worked with the staff to share their vision of the future of the Club, as well as gather input and feedback from the membership.  As a result, significant investments were made to the facility, including: repairs to the gym roof, repairs and renovations to the fitness area, a new floor surface for the weight room, the construction of a new Group Cycling Studio, a Zen Yoga Studio, new administration offices, and the purchase of 25 new spinning bikes and 10 pieces of cardiovascular equipment.

Despite their proactive approach to enhancing the overall operations, they were forced to close the racquet-sports division of the business resulting from a notable and dramatic decline in the participation of racquet sports. Recognizing the community’s acute shortage of multi-sport surfaces, the Kaneb’s decided to venture out in a new direction.

During the fall of 2011, Le Club transformed its 90,000 sq. ft. facility to become a première fitness and multisports training centre in the West-Island. This newly renovated facility includes: an indoor ball hockey rink, an indoor field turf, a state-of-the art fitness and lifestyle centre, (4) International squash courts, specialized conditioning facilities, and innovative new group programming for participants of all ages.  Le Club is also home to Medi-Club Sports Physiotherapy and Medical Wellness Centre: their staff is a multi-disciplinary team of educated and experienced specialists with extensive experience in rehabilitation – physiotherapists, massage therapists, osteopaths, sports therapists, and an orthotist.  In addition, we restored full service in the restaurant for our members and guests, with Chuck Bowman returning to Le Club in the role of restaurant manager.

The pursuit of this transformation represents the next chapter for Le Club, one that focuses on providing an unparalleled member experience, setting new standards in personal training to group conditioning, and enhancing the performances of athletes and fitness enthusiasts of all ages.
